FAQ

Questions, answered.

What is an MSYP?

An MSYP is a Member of the Scottish Youth Parliament: a young person aged 14 to 25 elected to represent the young people in their constituency. Two MSYPs are elected for Aberdeenshire West.

What does the Scottish Youth Parliament do?

The Scottish Youth Parliament gives young people across Scotland a democratic voice, gathering young people's views on the issues that matter to them and taking those views to decision makers.

Who can vote, and when?

If you're aged 12 to 25 and live in Aberdeenshire West, you can vote. Voting is online and runs from 2 to 15 November 2026. See how to vote.

How is my vote counted?

Aberdeenshire West elects two MSYPs using the Single Transferable Vote (STV). You rank candidates in order of preference. If your first choice is elected with votes to spare, or is eliminated, your vote can transfer to your next preference. That's why it's worth using all your preferences. Put me as your 1.

What is the Dibb Deal?

It's my promise to young people in Aberdeenshire West. My side: I'll come to your village, your youth group or your club, listen, and take what you tell me to the people in charge, and I won't disappear after the election. What I'll push for: my four priorities. Your side: tell me what matters to you, and vote. Read the Dibb Deal.

Are your priorities Scottish Youth Parliament policy?

No. They're my own personal priorities as a candidate, not official Scottish Youth Parliament policy, and I want young people to shape them through my survey.
